As with our other processors the NR Series takes a no compromise approach to image quality

configuration. Each processor is optimized for the display. By combining the most appropriate
resolution with signal processing, including Faroudja's patented Bandwidth Expansion circuit,
the unit will provide the cleanest, sharpest image possible for that display. It offers a simple and

Native Rate Series
Digital Video Processor -Aspect Ratio Controller

There are some very powerful technologies used in the Native Rate Series.

Resolution Selection
For the best image possible the digital display must operate at the proper resolution. In some
cases this is the display's native resolution. In others, due to the display's menu structure, an
alternative resolution will yield the best results. When a unit in the NR Series is ordered, the
display type is specified. The unit is then optimized for that display. This configuration has two
benefits; first the display will be sent the signal that provides the highest quality and second,
since the scan rate of the display does not change, the NR Series does not add expensive, and
unnecessary, variable rate scaling.

Image Optimizing
Bandwidth Expansion™ is a critical patented non-linear detail processing circuit in the NR
Series. Bandwidth Expansion technology is implemented after the scaling stage. It is then
optimized for the specific rate in the processor, using six different fine-tune adjustments for
horizontal and vertical edge information, greatly increasing the apparent resolution without "ringing" artifacts.

Motion

Patented Directional Correlation Deinterlacing (DCDi™) applies new
motion adaptive deinterlacing that prevents the introduction of motion
artifacts and jagged edges from video signals that originated from video
cameras (such as with sporting events, live camera feeds and music videos).

Patented 3/2 pull-down circuit with advanced edit detection is used for video signals that
originated from film cameras for exact reconstruction of the original film frame without
introducing motion artifacts. The advanced edit detection is critical to track today's videos that
typically are filled with fast edits that combine both film and video originated sources.

Color
Faroudja has long been known for offering the best color decoding technology. The NR Series
offers patented 10-bit adaptive comb filtering with Cross-Color suppression (rainbow pattern
artifact) and a two line Time Base Corrector. Bandwidth Expansion is applied to the color signal
for further improvements in color resolution. HDTV YPrPb to RGB transcoding is also included.

Controller
The NR Series offers aspect ratio and image alignment controls ensuring that it will integrate
effortlessly with all types of displays.

HDTV is finally here. Unfortunately, it usually arrives as an interlaced signal.
This causes visible line structure and stairstepping artifacts.

The new DVP5000 will input the 1080i interlaced HDTV signal and
recombine the information to yield artifact free 1080p progressive HDTV.
While removing interlacing artifacts it also increases light output on CRT projectors.
Large venue Electronic Cinema applications with fixed panel display projectors
such as DLP and D-ILA projectors require a progressive signal for optimum
performance which the DVP5000 can provide.

The DVP5000 adds significant image performance to any multi-scan projector from any DTV or HDTV source.

Image Quality

The DVP5000 applies three new critical signal
processing circuits that take image quality to an
even higher level than previous Faroudja models.

HDTV 1080i to 1080p Conversion removes the interlaced
artifacts from HDTV 1080i sources using new patented
technology optimized for the high bandwidth and signal timing
demands of the 1080p scan rate(67KHz) including new
interpolations of 3/2-pulldown detection and Bandwidth Expansion.
A separate HDTV input stage accepts the 480p, 1080i or 720p signals.

Diagonal Correlation Deinterlacing (DCDi TM) applies new
motion adaptive deinterlacing that prevents the introduction of
motion artifacts and jagged edges from video signals that
originated from 480i video cameras.
A second patented 3/2 pull-down detection circuit is used
for video signals that originate from film.

Scan-LockTM Bandwidth Expansion detail circuitry.
Most “scalers” create a soft image as the scan rate is increased due
to line interpolation and no detail processing after the scaling stage.
The DVP5000’s unique “Scan-Lock” circuitry applies the advanced Bandwidth Expansion circuitry
after the scaling stage and is fine-tuned and locked to optimize each scan rate.
This approach greatly improves edge detail at any scan rate.
The Patented Bandwidth Expansion circuitry is a complex multi-step process
to improve edge detail for both chroma and luminance information.

Outputs

The output frequencies can be perfectly aligned to match the native
resolution of most high resolution Fixed Panel Display projectors.
CRT projector performance can be fine-tuned to provide maximum line count
resulting in higher light output and resolution without image softening.

HDTV 1080i signals are converted to 1080p.
HDTV 480p signals can be viewed as either 480p or converted to 960p.
HDTV 720p signals are passed-through.
All HDTV signals are processed with Bandwidth Expansion for improved edge detail.

480i signals are upconverted to computer frequencies of
640X480, 800X600, 1024X768 and 1280X1024.
Also to DTV/HDTV frequencies of 720p, 1080i, 960p (Quadrupling) and 1080p.

Internal Aspect Ratio control allows for optimizing the projector with the different 480i sources available.
Letterbox, Anamorphic and 4:3 sources are adjusted inside the DVP5000
so only one memory is required in the projector.
*Aspect Ratio control not available with HDTV input signals.

The Progressive output from DVDs (480p) can be connected to the DVP5000
and upconverted to any of the higher scan rates available.

iScan Plus V2

Continuing our tradition of providing the highest quality video at the lowest possible price, Silicon Image presents the latest edition of the award-winning DVDO iScan Plus. The new iScan Plus V2 offers even better video performance than the original as well as the ability to accommodate an even wider variety of television sets.

Like the original, the iScan Plus V2 performs an extremely high-quality upconversion process that converts existing standard definition video from DVD, videotape, laser disc, satellite or standard broadcast television to a near high-definition signal, dramatically improving the video image.

The technology behind this upconversion consists of advanced motion-adaptive and source-adaptive processors that convert the incoming video stream from 60 interlaced fields per second to 60 progressively scanned frames per second. In addition to offering the fastest and most accurate film detection available and advanced Source Transition Management, the iScan Plus V2 is also able to recognize video sequences that were originally created as computer graphics or 30 frame-per-second animation.

With a new Squeeze mode, the iScan Plus V2 is able to horizontally compress a 4:3 image into a 16:9 frame. This allows the iScan to be used with HDTV sets that are unable to perform this aspect ratio conversion on their own.
